Erika Jayne is basking in the glow of her new relationship with Army veteran John McPhee and “raving” about him to her friends – even though he has a few red flags, a source exclusively tells Star.
“She loves that he’s a man’s man and opinionated,” the source reveals. “She thinks he’s a war hero and isn’t fazed by the controversy surrounding him. She also thinks he’s what she needs right now, someone strong to bolster her.”
McPhee, 54 recently admitted to being divorced “several times” and compared being married to “being in prison,” during a May interview with Megyn Kelly. Prior to his romance with Jayne, he also served in Afghanistan and was nicknamed “Shrek” and the “Sheriff of Baghdad,” per The Sun.
Despite any controversies in his past, one thing that appealed to the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, 53, was that he’s “nothing like” her estranged husband Tom Girardi.
Jayne and Girardi, 86 – who have a 33-year age gap – tied the knot in 2000. Two decades later, she filed for divorce in November 2020, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Not only did insiders allege that the disbarred former lawyer had been unfaithful in their marriage, according to People, but he was also caught up in a years-long embezzlement scandal at the time.
Despite Girardi’s flaws, it’s going to take a lot more than being different from him to convince the Bravolebrity’s pals that McPhee is an ideal match for her.
“Her friends are warning her to be careful. To her them, he doesn’t seem too stable — he’s been divorced several times by his own admission,” the source explains. “They have no problem with her dating, she deserves to have a little fun, but they’d like to see her with someone on her level.”
The source also points out that Jayne is “used to the finer things” in her lavish life and her friends think that she may be “trying to prove she’s not a rich, spoiled Beverly Hills housewife” by sparking up a relationship with McPhee.
On Monday, July 7, Jayne and McPhee were spotted holding hands while out and about in Los Angeles.
In photos obtained by The Sun, the Bravo personality sported a casual look in a white ADA shirt, jeans and a pink cap. McPhee sported a shirt that read “Slaughter Things,” a pair of cargo shorts and Crocs.
