Queen Camilla appeared to be going through the motions during a chat with Princess Kate and Melania Trump.
The uncomfortable exchange unfolded on Wednesday, September 17, as Kate, 43, chatted with Melania, 55, while Camilla, 77, watched on and looked around during the formal state visit welcome for President Donald Trump and the First Lady.
Prince William and his wife were the first to greet the Trumps on the Windsor Castle grounds before accompanying them to meet King Charles, 76, and Camilla outside Victoria House.
After the initial greetings, William joined Charles and Trump’s conversation while Kate approached Camilla and Melania. The Princess of Wales and Melania chatted while the Queen stood by, appearing somewhat detached from the conversation.
After a few moments, Camilla, with a sweep of her hand, motioned for Kate to move. Kate obliged, said farewell to Melania, and stepped away to join William’s side.

Camilla and Melania then spoke briefly as the group lined up for the horse-drawn carriage procession to Windsor Castle.
The ceremonial welcome kicked off the official state visit, with the carriage procession providing another opportunity for Camilla and Melania to interact as they rode together in the Scottish State Coach.
Charles and Trump led the procession in the Irish State Coach, while William and Kate rode separately with the U.S. ambassador and his wife.
