Princess Charlotte Turns 10! Kate Middleton Shares an Adorable New Hiking Photo For The Royal Tween’s Big Day

She’s in the double digits now! On May 2, The Prince and Princess of Wales shared a new photo to celebrate their middle child’s big day. “Happy 10th Birthday Princess Charlotte!” the pair posted alongside a shot of the tween wearing camouflage and toting a backpack in the English countryside. (Big brother Prince George is 11 and little brother Prince Louis turned 7 April 23.) The cute snap was taken by Princess Kate, 43 — on her iPhone! — during a visit to Cumbria, in Northwest England in early 2025.

“Charlotte liked this photo of her on a hike,” an insider tells Star. “She loves getting outdoors and is a born adventurer, as are her siblings. She gets that from her parents, but then the royal family always did love their nature walks.”

The birthday pic wasn’t the only royal portrait unveiled. On May 6, King Charles III and Queen Camilla showed off their official coronation portraits at London’s National Gallery. Painted by Peter Kuhfeld (his) and Paul Benney (hers), the artworks commemorate his ascending to the throne two years ago.

Unlike Kate’s quick photo of Charlotte, these likenesses took months for the artists to render. Benney, for one, is sorry the process is over, saying, “After nearly a year of being installed in a temporary studio at Clarence House, I have deep and abiding memories of many hours of fascinating and sometimes hilarious conversation with Her Majesty on countless varied subjects.”
