Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s playful red carpet moment is making headlines.

The Duke of Sussex grabbed his wife’s backside while posing for photos at the Humanitarians of the Year event at the Project Healthy Minds Gala in New York City on Thursday October 9.

In footage obtained by Hello!, the 41-year-old moved his hand to Meghan’s lower back after the Suits alum, 44, shifted positions and appeared to correct him. Harry laughed in response.

The couple’s red carpet appearance also featured a few slightly awkward moments. Social media users noticed Harry attempting to lead Meghan off the step-and-repeat while she lingered to engage with photographers. Royal watchers speculated that Harry may have whispered “come on now” to Meghan as she paused.

Backstage, another video posted by the Daily Mail showed Harry being pulled aside by a member of the team while Meghan waited alone. Some critics claimed she briefly “glowered” before smiling again, while others praised her for making an effort not to overshadow her husband.

The pair, who have been married since 2018, were honored as Humanitarians of the Year for their work on mental health initiatives. Meghan was praised as “a mother, wife, entrepreneur, and philanthropist,” while Harry’s contributions included his involvement with mental health companies and his 2021 memoir Spare.

The couple, who both wore coordinated suits, also shared subtler PDA by holding hands throughout the evening. During their speech, they referenced their children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4.

“They’re still too young for social media, but we know that day is coming,” Meghan said, per People. “Like so many parents, we think constantly about how to embrace technology’s benefits while safeguarding against its dangers.”

Harry called this a “pivotal moment” to “protect children and support families in the digital age.”
