When Freddie Prinze Jr. recently sat down to brunch with his children—Charlotte, 6, and Rocky, 3—at an L.A. restaurant, guests couldn’t help but notice that the unshaven actor looked a mess. “Thankfully, the nanny was there to play with the kids,” an eyewitness tells Star. “Freddie seemed out of it. He just looked so defeated.” And Star can reveal the reason why: He and his wife of 13 years, Sarah Michelle Gellar, are struggling to keep their marriage alive.

The trouble began last year when Freddie, 39, underwent spinal surgery. "Sarah took care of him when he couldn't get out of bed, but as time went on and his injuries healed, she noticed he was in no rush to return to work," says a source.

"Since then, Freddie's grown content on the couch, playing video games instead of getting paid to voice them," adds the tipster.

However, the couple's October promo tour for Disney's animated series Star Wars Rebels (recorded prior to Freddie's health scare) provided the perfect opportunity to get him out of the house.
