After more than a decade of sobriety, in late January, Natasha Lyonne admitted she had fallen off the wagon. “Took my relapse public more to come,” the 46-year-old posted on X, later writing, “Recovery is a lifelong process. Anyone out there struggling, remember you’re not alone… Stay honest, folks. Sick as your secrets,” per Variety.

The Poker Face star struggled with alcohol and drug addiction throughout the 2000s, including a 2001 arrest for DUI in Miami. In 2005, she wound up in an NYC intensive-care unit with a collapsed lung and hepatitis C. After a 2005 arrest for harassing a neighbor, the charges were dismissed when she completed court-ordered rehab in 2006. “Spiraling into addiction is really, really scary,” she told Entertainment Weekly in 2012. Admitting that she’d used cocaine and heroin, she added, “I was definitely as good as dead, you know? A lot of people don’t come back.”
Going public with her relapse was a way to keep herself accountable, a source tells Star. “Her recovery is based on honesty and integrity, that’s how she’s chosen to live her life for many years now.” She’s leaning on friends for support as well. “People are checking on her constantly,” adds the source.

She’s also got her upcoming movie Bambo — the first she’s written and directed — to keep her going. Starring Joey King, it takes place in the New York City boxing world. “Gonna do it for baby Bambo,” Natasha wrote in her post, urging others to stick with their sobriety. “Don’t quit before the miracle. Wallpaper your mind with love. Rest is all noise & baloney.”
