Widows Bay premieres April 29 on Apple+. Mayor Tom Loftis wants to transform a haunted New England island into a tourist hotspot, but a paranormal force may prove the locals right.
Widow Bay’s go-getter mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) dreams of turning the sleepy, run-down island off the coast of New England into the next Martha’s Vineyard. But the superstitious locals resist his efforts, insisting the place is haunted and tourists could die.
Dismissing their fears, Loftis succeeds in luring visitors — but then the old stories of a malevolent paranormal force start coming true. The interactions between the “hick” islanders and the (supposedly) more sophisticated “mainlander” mayor give this eerie series some welcome comic relief.
