Inspiration for the track “Golden” from KPop Demon Hunters struck EJAE at a funny time.
On Tuesday, October 7, EJAE, 33, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami — the three women who provided the singing voices for the girl group Huntr/x in the movie — appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. During the episode, EJAE, who co-wrote “Golden” with Mark Sonnenblick, revealed how the song came to be.
“I was in the car, the cab, and on the way to the dentist, that’s when I received the track from the amazing Black Label, the producers, Teddy [Park], 24, Ido, and also Ian Eisendrath, our music director,” she recounted.

“I received the track, and the track was just so beautiful,” she gushed. “That intro is so, so beautiful. And this rarely happens, but, like, it just instantly I got, like, inspiration from it, melodically.”
“Immediately, I had to record it, so I got a voice memo,” EJAE explained before she vocalized the tune. “I have the voice memo, and, like, you could hear me just going, ‘Neh, neh, neh.’ I don’t know what I was saying. It was just gibberish.”
EJAE noted that after she and Sonnenblick finished the song, “We’re just like, ‘Wait. Is this is a smash?'”
The pair were right in thinking the track would be a success, as “Golden” has spent 15 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
