In a Page Six article published on Friday, August 7, a source shared insight into the 44-year-old singer’s world about a year after the talent manager passed away in August 2025 from melanoma.
The source explained that Clarkson and Blackstock’s kids, River, 12, and son, Remington “Remy,” 10, have been the priority for the American Idol winner as “it’s been an incredibly emotional year” for them.
“Losing a parent at such a young age is something no child should ever have to go through. Kelly has done everything she can to be there for River and Remy as they’ve navigated that loss,” the source shared. “Her focus has been making sure they feel loved, supported and as stable as possible while giving them the space to grieve in their own way.”

“This past year has given Kelly a different perspective,” the source continued. “She still has moments that are incredibly hard, but she’s in a much better place than she was during the divorce years.”
Clarkson’s also in a good place with her career. Last month, the Grammy Award winner released a new song titled “I’d Be Lyin” and she also will be back on season 30 of The Voice, which premieres in September on NBC.
“She’s excited to be making music again, she’s having fun with the residency, and returning to ‘The Voice’ feels like the right fit because it allows her to keep doing what she loves while also being the kind of mom she wants to be,” the insider told the outlet.

When it comes to ending her eponymous talk show, the insider noted that it “wasn’t an easy decision because she genuinely loved it, but it gave her the time and flexibility she needed to put her family first.”
“Looking back, she knows it was the right decision,” the source added. “Being more present for her kids during such a difficult chapter has meant everything to her.”
Clarkson and Blackstock tied the knot in 2013, but the pair split in 2020 and finalized their divorce in 2022.
