Jonathan Groff and Daniel Radcliffe Star in Movie Adaption of Broadway Hit ‘Merrily We Roll Along’
This Stephen Sondheim musical is the told-in-reverse story of three friends, Franklin (Jonathan Groff), Mary (Lindsay Mendez) and Charley (Daniel Radcliffe), whose youthful ideals are derailed by success.
It opens with Franklin, once an aspiring composer, now a Hollywood power broker, realizing he’s hit rock bottom — at his own A-list party. His second divorce is imminent, and he misses his best friends, Mary, now an alcoholic theater critic who still pines for him, and Charley, his former writing partner, now a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright. The musical traces their friendship back to its beginning when they were neighbors trying to make it in New York.
The film was recorded over three performances of the show’s Tony-winning revival in June 2024, but the film version gives you the best seat in the house.
