In this authorized biopic, Jeremy Allen White plays Bruce Springsteen circa 1982, when he’s just back from touring with his first hit album. Burned out and struggling to reconcile fame with his abusive childhood, he retreats to a bedroom in a rental house in New Jersey to record an acoustic record about outlaws and outsiders using a four-track tape recorder, and creates what many consider his masterpiece, Nebraska.

White’s performance is spot on — Bruce himself gave it a thumbs-up. If you’re from Jersey, of course you have a civic obligation to see this film. But other die-hard Boss fanatics, Chef Carmy fans and anyone interested in the music business will also enjoy it.
