Inside Prince William and Princess Kate’s Big Decisions Following Prince George’s 12th Birthday
He’s almost a teenager! On July 22, per tradition, the Prince and Princess of Wales released a new photo of their eldest child on Instagram. “Happy 12th Birthday to Prince George!” they captioned the sweet pic of the heir to the throne, who was decked out in a checkered shirt, fleece vest and jeans.
Within 12 hours, the pic — taken by the family’s favorite photographer, Josh Shinner, at their Norfolk, England, estate earlier this year — racked up more than 400,000 likes. As did a behind-the-scenes video featuring George and his siblings, Princess Charlotte, 10, and 7-year-old Prince Louis, giggling as they walked through the countryside. At one point, a mischievious Charlotte and George hoisted their younger brother into the air.

This year will be a big one for the young prince, as it will be the last one when he’ll attended Lambrook School with his younger siblings. His parents, Prince William and Princess Kate, have yet to reveal whether the future king will follow in his father’s footsteps and attend the prestigous Eton boarding school once he turns 13. (The decision was likely made back when George was 10, per the school’s policy.)
The parents, who have been tasked with modernizing the monarchy, also have to face another royal conundrum. Per a formal royal pilot, heirs to the throne like George — and William before him — do not typically fly with their fathers after the age of 12.
