Americans are packing up their cars and reclaiming the open road this holiday season, with new data showing a surge of long-distance winter getaways across the country. According to Hiltons 2026 Trends Report, 71% of travelers say they plan to drive on their next vacation, signaling that road trips may be fully back in vogue.

A review of Hilton.com search results for stays of five nights or more between Dec. 21, 2025, and Jan. 4, 2026 reveals the top continental U.S. destinations travelers are most eager to go. Searches show a clear preference for festive urban hubs, warm-weather escapes, and nostalgic winter retreats.

New York tops the list, unsurprisingly, as travelers look to celebrate New Years Eve at dazzling heights. At Tempo by Hilton New York Times Square, guests ring in 2026 with Highballs top-shelf bar, gourmet bites, and live DJ entertainment. The hotel offers exclusive access to a private viewing area for the Times Square Ball Drop, giving visitors an up-close, bucket-list experience.

Orlando continues its holiday reign in the No. 2 spot as families flock to warmer weather and theme park magic. Hilton Orlando is showcasing a whimsical Hot Chocolate Bomb Bar — a roaming festive cart offering customizable treats. With a lazy river, tropical pools, and packed holiday programming, the resort turns winter travel into a sunny, family-friendly escape.

In Phoenix, Embassy Suites by Hilton Phoenix Biltmore is drawing guests longing for desert warmth and resort-style ease. Its 232 two-room suites offer space to unwind in a lively district known for upscale dining and shopping. Travelers also enjoy easy access to Arizona Biltmore, LXR Hotels & Resorts, and Camelback Mountain.

In Las Vegas, Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas is trending among travelers looking for a stylish, slower-paced holiday on the Strip. The hotel features 389 luxurious rooms and suites, a world-class spa, and Michelin-starred dining — a decidedly serene holiday experience above the citys neon rush.

Rounding out the top five, Chicago remains a quintessential Midwestern winter trip. At Hilton Chicago, guests can book “The Kevin,” a holiday experience inspired by “Home Alone” Christmas nostalgia. The package includes a whole cheese pizza, an ADA-approved toothbrush, and ice cream delivery, all within a landmark hotel overlooking Grant Park and Lake Michigan.

Travelers seeking sun and sparkle are heading to San Diego, where Hotel del Coronado, Curio Collection by Hilton, transforms into a coastal winter wonderland. Its iconic Victorian architecture, sparkling holiday lights, and beachfront ice rink create a uniquely Californian version of the holidays.

In Anaheim, road-tripping families are booking Hampton Inn & Suites Anaheim Resort Convention Center — especially because 83% of road trippers say a free morning meal is essential. The hotel includes complimentary hot breakfast, modern rooms, and easy access to Southern Californias theme parks and holiday attractions.

Holiday travelers to Los Angeles are checking into Conrad Los Angeles for its blend of culture and festive luxury. Guests can enjoy two José Andrés restaurants, a rooftop pool overlooking the cityscape, and a central location steps away from L.A.s arts district during its most glittering season.

Fort Lauderdale closes out the list at No. 9, where Beach House Fort Lauderdale, a Hilton Resort, offers beachfront suites with full kitchens and separate living areas. Guests unwind on a wraparound pool deck, enjoy oceanside dining, and celebrate the holidays amid tropical décor and Atlantic breezes.

Wherever travelers choose to drive this season, Hilton Honors helps make those trips possible. Members can earn, redeem, and combine Points and money using the flexible payment slider, and receive benefits including exclusive discounts and free standard Wi-Fi.
