Robert was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in July 2003 and died just two months later. Kim, 46, told author Jonathan Van Meter that her dad’s parting message was about her future.
“The last thing my dad ever said to me was, ‘I know you’re going to be good — I can see it,'” the All’s Fair actress shared in the book. “‘It’s as if I can see what your whole life is going to be like.'”

“My dad didn’t go into detail, and he was kind of in and out of it: ‘I can see it.’ He put his hand on my leg. I’ll never forget it,” she continued. “And I was laying next to him on this couch — this L-shaped couch — and we were kind of squished in this way, watching a movie. And he said, ‘You’ll be fine. But take care of the other ones. And make sure your brother’s good.'”
Robert and ex-wife Kris Jenner also share Kourtney Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian, and Rob Kardashian, and all of the siblings have talked openly about how hard his death hit them. On a November 2025 episode of her Khloé in Wonder Land podcast, Khloé, 42, was asked to name the most pivotal moment of her life. Her answer was “probably my dad dying.”

Robert, who was part of O.J. Simpson’s legal team during his murder trial, also inspired Kim’s own path into law. She has said he tried to talk her out of it by warning her how demanding the work is, but she believes he’d be proud that she pursued a legal apprenticeship.
“I think he would love it,” she told Vanity Fair in April 2020.
