HBO’s ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Opens in Westeros 100 Years Before ‘Game of Thrones’
The long-awaited prequel to Game of Thrones has no dragons, no big battles, no white walkers and no red weddings, but it does have lovable characters and a heartwarming plot.
Opening in Westeros 100 years before the original series, the drama features a poor but kindhearted knight known as Ser Duncan the Tall, a.k.a. Dunk (Peter Claffey). A bit of a screwup, he has the good fortune of meeting Egg, a wily young bald boy who offers to be his squire and helps him out of various scrapes.
Despite lacking any training, Dunk tries to enter a jousting tournament, hoping one of the great houses will take him into service. But after an altercation with Prince Aerion, the nephew of the Crown Prince, he’s forced into a fight that could cost him his life.
More like an old-fashioned chivalric tale with its focus on duty, honor and protecting the innocent, this Knight definitely has very shining armor.
