Grimes Adds Onto Ongoing Tattoo Collection, Unveils Massive Ink on Face

Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, just revealed her long-awaited face tattoo — though she says it almost went completely unnoticed.

On Wednesday, October 23, Grimes, 37, shared a photo on Instagram showing the delicate red ink design across her cheeks and forehead, alongside a caption admitting she’d “spent like ten years emotionally working up to a face tattoo.”

“I guess I draw on my face too much and literally no one noticed, not even my parents,” she wrote, adding that she thought tattoo artist @glyphomancer was “onto something truly novel and innovative,” especially with her intricate work on face tattoos.

The new design, which resembles fine, organic lines or circuit-like patterns, fits seamlessly with Grimes’s futuristic, otherworldly style — an aesthetic that’s become central to her ongoing “Grimesect” creative identity.

The subtle piece joins her growing collection of experimental tattoos, including her famous white “alien wing” back tattoo and abstract black leg ink. Grimes described the current state of tattoo culture as “a crazy renaissance period that’s sort of under appreciated atm,” suggesting her latest addition might be part of a larger artistic movement she’s helping define.

Fans quickly filled the comments with mixed reactions — some calling the new tattoo “beautiful and ethereal,” others admitting they had to zoom in to even see it.

One thing everyone agreed on: Grimes continues to blur the line between beauty, art, and self-invention in ways only she can.
