Channing Tatum Shows Off His Wacky Side in ‘Roofman’ Costarring Kirsten Dunst
This fast-paced caper-slash-sweet-love-story, set in the early 2000s, is the true tale of a military veteran (Channing Tatum), who, desperate for cash to support his family, decides to use his Army Ranger skills to rob McDonald’s by cutting holes in their roofs.
Forty-plus burglaries later, he’s sentenced to decades behind bars, but manages to escape, hiding out in a Toys “R” Us. From behind a “fort” he builds out of baby monitors, he eavesdrops on the employees, eventually getting caught up in their personal dramas. Sympathizing with the plight of Leigh (Kirsten Dunst), he worms his way into her life. Roofman is sure to be a crowd pleaser, thanks to sympathetic performances and the wacky story that somehow avoids feeling contrived.
