Take Back The Arts

Amid growing concerns over political and corporate influence in the arts, a new movement to protect creative freedom is holding a national day of action this Saturday.

Lisa Goich, former GRAMMY executive and co-host/producer of “Mitch Alboms Tuesday People” podcast, has launched Take Back The Arts, a grassroots initiative aimed at pushing back against censorship and commercialization in artistic expression.

The movement comes in response to “Hamilton” canceling its Kennedy Center run after a change in the venues leadership under President Donald Trump. The move has sparked debate over political influence in the arts, with many artists seeing it as a tipping point in the fight for unrestricted creative expression.

On Saturday, March 8, artists across the country will participate in the first-ever “Take Back the Arts Day”, a national day of action encouraging creators from all disciplines — musicians, actors, painters, filmmakers, poets, and more — to reclaim their voices.

“Art is not a chess piece in a political game. It is freedom, and it belongs to the people,” says Goich. “When creativity is controlled, we lose the ability to tell our own stories, challenge ideas, and inspire change. Take Back the Arts Day unites artists everywhere to say: You will not silence us.”

Organizers say artists are encouraged to participate by: Creating (sharing their art through video, images, or performances); Posting (using #TakeBacktheArts to join the nationwide conversation); Amplifying (encouraging fellow artists to take part); and Advocating (speaking out on the importance of artistic freedom).
