Ariana Grande ‘Was So Nervous to Work with Cher’ on ‘SNL’ But ‘They Clicked Right Away’ (Exclusive)

Cher got along so well with Ariana Grande while taping Saturday Night Live on Saturday, December 20, that the legendary diva, 79, has taken the 32-year-old singer under her wing, a source tells Star.

“Ariana was so nervous to work with Cher,” admits the source. “She idolizes her, so of course she was beyond anxious about how it would all go.”

The Wicked: For Good star — who hosted the show’s Christmas episode live from New York City — needn’t have worried, though.

“It could not have gone better and Ariana keeps saying she feels like she’s dreaming now because she’s actually texting Cher,” the source reveals. “She didn’t expect Cher to be so warm and down-to-earth. They clicked right away and were talking about all sorts of things from politics to animal rescue and makeup.”

Grande and the “If I Could Turn Back Time” singer are even planning to go on a double date with their respective boyfriends, Ethan Slater and Alexander “AE” Edwards, Star has learned.

“Cher is being very protective of Ariana,” says the source. “It’s obvious she sees a kindred spirit and has really gone into maternal mode with her. Cher even had her cook make her favorite soup to send to Ariana.”

Getting to know Cher has been “pretty surreal” for the pop star, the source admits: “If this double date actually happens, it will probably put Ariana right over the edge. There’s almost no one she’d rather hang out with than Cher.”

Adds the source: “It’s very sweet to see Ariana so starstruck.”
