‘American Idol’ Winner Jamal Roberts Reveals He’s Going On Tour With R&B Icons Monica and Brandy

American Idol winner Jamal Roberts is hitting the road this fall.

On Tuesday, June 24, the musician, 27, took to his Instagram to announce he’ll be opening for Monica and Brandy as part of their upcoming The Boy Is Mine Tour.

The gospel singer will join the ’90s R&B legends on their 24-city concert series, which kicks off Oct. 16 in Cincinnati and wraps Dec. 7 in Houston, The other opening acts on the tour include former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland and singer-songwriter Muni Long.

“The things God is doing in my life 🥺 Hmmmmm and new music is on the way 🔥🔥🔥 Sit tight 🤞🏾 oh and I love yall ❤️💪🏾,” Roberts captioned his post.

Fans took to the comment section to gush over the good news and congratulate Roberts.

“So excited for you… so deserved!” one fan wrote.

“Imagine your first tour with R&B royalty 🔥 can’t get no better,” a second fan penned.

“YOU DESERVE!!! I’m so happy for you man!!” a third fan commented.

Roberts — who hails from Mississippi — was formerly a physical education teacher before he took home the trophy during season 23 of American Idol last month. He beat out country singers John Foster and Breanna Nix, who came in second and third place and took home a cash prize and a recording contract.

While his setlist for the tour has yet to be released, he is expected to perform his chart-topping single “Heal,” which he debuted on the show.

After his win, Roberts addressed the speculation from fans that judge Carrie Underwood wasn’t supportive of him throughout the the singing competition series.

“Carrie is a country singer, and she likes country music. I mean, I don’t think she likes every genre for real. She had her picks, and she had her [choice] of who she really liked, and she stuck with it,” Roberts told reporter Nate Vinson at the BET 45th Anniversary Dinner in L.A.

Roberts seemingly holds no resentment towards the country superstar, 42. “We applaud her for sticking to her roots and sticking to who she liked,” he added, “but I feel like the better person won.”

The “Before He Cheats” hitmaker, for her part, shared kind words about Roberts with Extra after his big win.

“I feel like it was a great finale, but Jamal just has a gift from God. His voice is insane. Every time he opens his mouth, it is flawless,” she told the outlet. “I got to tell him afterward I was like, ‘Now go do great things.’”
