Although the gorgeous couple never married, they felt their split merited an official joint announcement, which they made on September 7. “With great sadness, we have decided to separate, after 18 years of love and shared history. We will continue to be supportive of each other in every way possible moving forward.”
Star told you first, that there was trouble in paradise, back in July when a source close to the couple revealed as much, saying “the relationship just ran its course.”
Although rumors that Jon’s 30-day stay in rehab in the spring, and all the drinking that landed him there, was to blame for his crumbled union with the 45-year-old Friends With Kids actress, that may not have been the issue that did them in. From the sounds of it, Jennifer just came to terms that Jon just didn’t want the same things.
The area of contention was reportedly the 44-year-old Mad Men actor’s lack of desire to have a family with his longtime love. In an interview in 2011, Jon talked tentatively about the prospect, saying “I have a tremendous amount of respect for my friends who do balance this particular career with raising a kid, ’cause it’s a tricky environment to bring them into…So not for us just yet.”
The 24 actress had a different take on the subject, saying in 2012, “I never thought I’d be this age and not have kids.”
More recently, when asked again about the possibility of children on the horizon, the handsome actor’s views on the subject had not changed. “I don’t have a driving force to have a baby. That said, I’m in a committed relationship, and if it ever came up, I’m not ruling it out.”
It looks like Jon did rule it out, and now, with the bulk of her baby-making years behind her, unfortunately Jennifer may be forced to rule it out as well.
