Ever since Julianne Hough burst onto the scene as a professional on Dancing With the Stars in 2007, it seems like she’s been in a relationship. At the beginning, the now 25-year-old was engaged to her childhood friend, Zack Wilson, but distance eventually caused them to split. Next, she dated country singer Chuck Wicks until the end of 2009, before beginning a nearly three year relationship with Ryan Seacrest in 2010.
The actress broke up with Ryan in March 2013, and stayed single until she recently began dating hockey player Brooks Laich. In the March issue of Self, she opened up about finally taking that time to be alone.
“I’m a relationship girl and I feel so grateful for the ones I’ve been in,” she admitted. “They’ve been excellent — I’ve been hurt but never angry — and they’ve helped me grow to who I am today. But, my goal has been to be single for an entire year. There have been moments when I’m like, ‘This sucks!’ But my dad used to say to me, ‘When you feel happy happy with who you are, you won’t need anybody to fill a void. So, for now, I’m focusing on my work and my soul. I honestly don’t care if I meet somebody or not. I’m just loving life on my own with my own two feet on the ground.”
Julianne almost reached that 1-year goal, although recently, she’s been spotted out with her new man quite often. Just this week, they took a hike together with her dogs in California — and were photographed holding hands!
