A few controversial comments can’t keep The Bachelor fans away! Following his comments about a gay Bachelor, Juan Pablo Galavis still drew in 7.8 million viewers with a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic on Monday’s episode. Those numbers are practically the same as last week’s, which had 7.9 million viewers and a 2.3 rating in the demo.
On Friday, the reality star made headlines when he said that having a gay or bisexual star on the show wouldn’t be “a good example for kids to watch.” He even went so far as to say that gay people are “more pervert in a sense.”
Afterward, Juan Pablo took to Facebook to apologize, citing a language barrier as the reason for his misconstrued comments (English is not the single dad’s first language).
The Bachelor’s post-controversy ratings results are promising, especially considering Duck Dynasty saw a significant drop in its Season 5 premiere after Phil Robertson’s own controversial statements. The show came back to 8.5 million viewers, while Season 4, in August, premiered with 11.8 million.
