Country music star Jake Owen gave new meaning to the phrase “leave it all on stage” when he opened up to fans about his separation from wife Lacey Buchanan on stage, Saturday, August 8—the day after the divorce was announced on Twitter.
While performing Garth Brooks’ song “The Dance” at WE Fest in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, the singer paused to speak to talk to the audience about his recent heartbreak.
“A lot of people maybe shy away from it, but I think I’m going to do some weird stuff,” he stated. “My wife and I are getting a divorce, and this is probably the hardest s—t I’ve ever done in my life, to walk on stage every night and try to pretend like everything’s awesome when it really ain’t always awesome. You know what I’m saying?”
The musician continues: “But thanks to people like you for singing along—you have no idea how much you guys lift me up every single night.” And I love my wife more than anything in the world, and I love my little baby girl, Pearl, more than anything in the world. If it wasn’t for both of them, I wouldn’t even be here right now to be a happy man.”
Owen’s divorce news broke August 7, when on Twitter when he tweeted, “This is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life…”
