She reacted to Rachel Frederickson’s 155 pound weight loss reveal with an expression of shock at the Biggest Loser finale last month, and now, Jillian Michaels has broke her silence about the controversy. Initially, the personal trainer decided not to comment on the winner’s transformation, because she was not her trainer on the show, but in an interview with HuffPost Live, she finally verbalized her reaction.

“I was stunned,” she admitted. “I thought she had lost too much weight.”

The 40-year-old explained that, after the show, the trainers keep in touch with their contestants with a “checks and balances” system. This meant that she and fellow trainer, Bob Harper, hadn’t seen or spoken to Rachel between the show and live finale (her trainer was Dolvett Quince). “No one had told me, ‘Hey, Rachel is very, very thin,'” she explained. “Bob and I had no idea. Nobody had told us, nobody had said anything to us, so yes, I was stunned.”

“Obviously I thought she’d lost too much weight and I was immediately concerned and wondering how this happened, how no one had said anything to me and how the checks and balances that had been put into place, in my opinion, this had fallen through those checks and balances,” she continued.

Earlier this week, Rachel also opened up about the situation. While she noted that she appreciated and understood everyone’s concern, she reiterated that she’d shed the pounds in a healthy way. “I did work so hard for the finale and for finding myself again,” she said. “I felt amazing on that stage.”
