Why Elizabeth Hurley Wasn’t Surprised by Her Romance With Billy Ray Cyrus

Elizabeth Hurley‘s relationship with Billy Ray Cyrus may have sent shockwaves through the public, but it didn’t shock her.

On Tuesday, May 13, the British actress, 59, hosted the Breast Cancer Research Foundation’s Hot Pink Party in NYC and spoke to Page Six at the event, explaining she and the 63-year-old singer-songwriter are more alike than people think.

“I think people found Billy and I being together a little surprising. It’s not surprising to me because we’re actually quite similar and get on extremely well, but yes, there has been quite a reaction,” she admitted.

The couple’s relationship came under public scrutiny after they went Instagram official last month. However, the Gossip Girl alum shared that she and the “Achy Breaky Heart” hitmaker have many of the same passions.

“We both like to laugh a lot, and we both love the country, And we both love country music, both love movies. We’ve got a lot in common — and cowboy boots, definitely,” she said.

The Austin Powers star also gushed about the “Busy Man” singer’s character, telling Entertainment Tonight, “Billy’s a very fabulous person. He’s a very gentle man, very nice, and I’m very happy.”

Hurley added that his support for her work is “fabulous,” noting, “It’s very nice when people close to you are happy for you.”

Cyrus appeared on The Ty Bentli Show last month and shared that he met Hurley while filming Christmas in Paradise in 2022.

The country star said he was surprised by how well they got along on set and how similar they were.

“The oddest part was first, how much we laughed,” he stated. “Second, I figured we were so different but in some very strange way we had way more in common than we had different.”

Two years later, the pair reconnected after Hurley texted him, but Cyrus didn’t even have her number.

“So, I text back, I go, ‘Who is this?’ And it’s like, ‘Elizabeth Hurley.’ Of all the people to reach out to me in that second that maybe I needed most,” he confessed. “This friend who made me laugh.
