What To Watch On TV: Yellowstone Season 5

It’s the beginning of the end of an era! Nearly two years after its last episode, the epic Western drama returns for part 2 of season 5. Although off-screen conflicts kept Costner from filming new material, his character John Dutton still looms large in what could be the show’s final episodes.

“Everyone’s forgotten who runs this family — it’s time to remind them,” intones John, setting off a Dutton family civil war. The fate of the ranch is a battle between John’s daughter, Beth (Reilly), and his son Jamie (Wes Bentley), who warns his sister, “You destroy me, you destroy yourself.” Beth complains to her husband, Rip (Hauser), that she “can’t do this anymore,” only to have him remind her, “Well, you’re gonna have to, honey. Or we’re gonna lose this place.”

Meanwhile, Jamie’s lover, Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri), is giving her man a pep talk: “Old lions die in the jaws of younger lions — and you are the younger lion.” With a spinoff sequel series and characters’ fates up in the air, Yellowstone will go out with a bang!
