A group of legendary musicians will come together on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at SUNY Purchases Concert Hall for a special benefit concert, Musicians United for ALS.
The event will honor acclaimed producer and engineer Wayne Warnecke, a Westchester native battling ALS, (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) and raise funds for ALS United Greater New York, an organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by the disease.
Organized by Westchester musician Mickey Rosen and supported by Title Sponsor the Lasdon Foundation and Platinum Sponsor GMG Public Relations, Inc., the evening will be hosted by “The Sopranos” actor Vincent Pastore and led by Rob Mathes as musical director. The lineup features an array of legendary artists, including Patty Smyth (“Scandal”); Paul Shaffer (“The Late Show with David Letterman”); Average White Band; Lisa Fischer (Grammy-winning R&B artist); James D-Train Williams; Bob James (Grammy-winning jazz artist); ED Palermo Big Band; and Bernie Williams (Former Yankees star turned jazz musician).
The event will also include a special performance by Vaneese Thomas, Waynes wife and an acclaimed R&B/blues vocalist, alongside her sister, Carla Thomas, the “Queen of Memphis Soul.”
Backing these artists will be an all-star house band, featuring Shawn Pelton (“SNL”), Will Lee (“Letterman”), Robbie Kondor, Oz Noy, Paul Shaffer, and Rob Mathes. Additional artists are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
Wayne Warnecke, known for his work with Chaka Khan, Patti Austin, and Luther Vandross, has been a driving force in the music industry for decades. Diagnosed with ALS in 2022, he continues to inspire with his contributions, including producing Vaneese Thomas’ latest album, “Stories in Blue.”
The Mamaroneck, N.Y., native started as a drummer and later co-founded PTW Productions in 1987, producing hits for artists like Melba Moore and Freddie Jackson. He built an illustrious career working with Grammy-winning artists and industry icons, and despite his ALS diagnosis, he continues to impact the music world.
“The evening will undoubtedly be one of love and joy as we celebrate Wayne and his incredible lifetime of accomplishments,” said Vaneese Thomas. “We are grateful to everyone who has agreed to perform and support this concert. We look forward to a full house to raise as much money as possible for ALS United Greater New York.”
The evening will also feature a silent auction, offering exclusive items such as a signed tennis ball from John McEnroe and guitars autographed by Willie Nelson, Buddy Guy, and Joe Bonamassa.
“This concert is more than just a night of music; it is a powerful statement of unity, hope, and commitment to making a difference,” said Kristen Cocoman, President and CEO of ALS United Greater New York. “Musicians United for ALS is not only a tribute to Wayne Warnecke but also to every family impacted by ALS yesterday, today, and tomorrow.”
ALS United Greater New York has spent over 30 years providing comprehensive care, research funding, and advocacy for individuals living with ALS. Funds raised from the concert will directly support local programs and national research efforts aimed at finding a cure.
