Savannah Guthrie Thanks Fans for Their ‘Kindness’ During ‘Today’ Return Amid Mom’s Disappearance

After more than two months off the air, Savannah Guthrie returned to the Today show April 6. “It’s good to be home,” the 54-year-old said, per Page Six, adding, “OK, here we go. Ready or not, let’s do the news.”

The beloved NBC star wore yellow in tribute to her mother, Nancy Guthrie, 84, who has been missing since she was abducted from her Arizona home on February 1. For weeks, Savannah and her siblings have been sending pleas to the kidnappers while the investigation appears to sputter.

Savannah shared her frustration in an Easter video message at New York City’s Good Shepherd church the day before her return to Today.

“In my own season of trial, I have wondered, I have questioned whether Jesus really ever experienced this particular wound that I feel,” she said. “This grievous and uniquely cruel injury of not knowing, of uncertainty and confusion and answers withheld.”

In the end, she continued, she realized that acknowledging “the feelings of loss, pain and, yes, death” helped her fully celebrate the resurrection of Easter. “It is the darkness that makes this morning’s light so magnificent,” she said. “So blindingly beautiful.”

Back at Today, she was equally moved by fans outside the studio. “You guys have been so beautiful,” she said, tearing up, according to Page Six. “I received so many letters, so much kindness to me and my whole family. We feel it, we feel your prayers. Thank you!”
