Sam Asghari Breaks Silence After Britney Spears Calls Marriage a ‘Fake Distraction’: ‘I Was in Love’
Sam Asghari is making it clear he views his marriage to Britney Spears differently than she does.
On Monday, August 25, Asghari, 31, responded to his ex-wife’s recent comments by giving a statement to People through his rep, telling the outlet, “Our marriage was very real to me.”
“It may have been short, but we were together for seven years,” the Traitors alum continued. “I was in love with her, will always have love for her, and wish her the best always.”
As Star previously reported, the 43-year-old pop icon reflected on their relationship in an Instagram post shared on Sunday, August 24.
In the caption, the “Toxic” hitmaker said their union was a way to cope with losing contact with her sons Sean Preston, 19, and Jayden James, 18, who she shares with ex-husband Kevin Federline.
“We’re just people so fragile and human the hardest years of my life were my two sons gone for those 3 years,” Spears wrote.
“I was cut off from calling or texting and I remember in shock my secret to survival was denial and a lot of tears its weird me and Sam were married but it almost felt like a fake distraction to help me deal with it,” she admitted.
The mother of two met Asghari in 2016 after he was cast in her “Slumber Party” music video. The pair eventually tied the knot in June 2022 — however, Asghari filed for divorce a little over a year later in August 2023.
