‘Princess Diaries’ Star Heather Matarazzo Fears Losing Health Insurance Without New Role

Princess Diaries star Heather Matarazzo has admitted she fears she will lose her health insurance if she doesn’t land a new role soon.

The 43-year-old highlighted a problem facing actors while talking with fans and fellow stars online.

According to a report from People published on Thursday, September 24, SAG-AFTRA offers qualifying members a health plan, but actors must meet minimum earnings requirements to be eligible for coverage.

For some stars, shorter television seasons and changing industry trends have made it harder to hit those targets.

Matarazzo, who starred alongside Anne Hathaway in the hit Princess Diaries films, replied to a Threads post from fellow actor Jack Haven.

Haven said they needed to “make $4,000 by the end of the month” to qualify for the union’s health insurance in January.

In her response, Matarazzo said: “I am literally in the same boat right now, lots of my fellow actors are.”

She added: “I remember a time when we didn’t have to earn a minimum to qualify for insurance. Glad to see that Jack has gotten an offer that will let them to qualify for 2027.”

When a fan asked what could be done to help, Matarazzo responded: “Fight for Universal Healthcare and vote for any candidate that is fighting for it too.”

In addition to her role in The Princess Diaries, Matarazzo is known for Welcome to the Dollhouse, All I Wanna Do! and Scream 3. More recently, she had a multi-episode role on the Netflix series Wednesday.
