Prince Harry did his best to try and persuade Meghan Markle to spend the upcoming holidays in England, but in the end, she ultimately got her way, a source tells Star.
The As Ever founder, 45, isn’t “prepared to sit around being humiliated by the royals, even if they’d extended an invite,” reveals the source, which they haven’t, per The Times. “It gave her the perfect excuse to book a flight back to Montecito, and Harry ultimately didn’t have much of a choice.”
On Sunday, October 11, People reported that Harry, 42, and Meghan and their two children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, will likely celebrate Christmas in California with her mother, Doria Ragland. The Sussexes intend to spend Thanksgiving with her too, according to the outlet, though where they’ll gather for the holiday has yet to be determined.
“He’s very disappointed because in his mind they could have brought Doria to the Cotswolds and perhaps still scored an invite to see his father [King Charles III] and the Spencers,” says the source. “But Meghan wasn’t having any of it.”
“Harry’s fear is that his father will interpret this as them putting their noses in the air and heading back to Montecito in a huff,” says the source. “It doesn’t seem to dawn on him that the royals are actually relieved they don’t have to officially turn him and Meghan down now!”
