Does Prince Harry plan to stay in the United States?

During an appearance on the Wednesday, October 29, episode of the Hasan Minhaj Doesn’t Know podcast, host Hasan Minhaj asked the Duke of Sussex, 41, flat out if he plans to become a U.S. citizen.

“There are no plans to be at this point,” Harry replied, later adding that America has only “become way more confusing” since he and wife Meghan Markle moved to California in March 2020 after stepping back from their royal duties.

However, he explained that he’s embraced his new lifestyle, telling Minhaj, 40, that the “most American thing” he does now is go surfing. Minhaj also had the royal give listeners his best attempt at an American accent, asking Harry to repeat the sentence: “I ordered breadsticks with ranch dressing at Applebee’s.”

Questions of Harry’s citizenship come amid rumors that King Charles III’s son may one day move back home.

As Star previously reported, Harry — who shares son Archie, 6, and daughter Lilibet, 4, with the Duchess of Sussex, 44 — saw his estranged father for the first time since February 2024 when they had high tea at Clarence House in London on September 10.

Days later, the father of two told The Guardian that he’d like to bring his children one day, noting: “This week has definitely brought that closer.”

That same month, Hello! reported that Harry engaged in a conversation with English singer-songwriter Joss Stone and asked about her decision to move back to the U.K. after living in the States.

Stone, 38, told the publication that Harry wondered “how we were settling back in and was genuinely interested in our move home,” adding: “Maybe Harry will move back too. That would be nice.”

Harry’s appearance on Minhaj’s podcast isn’t the first time he’s been questioned about becoming an American citizen.

In a February 2024 exclusive with Good Morning America, journalist Will Reeve asked if he was enjoying living in the U.S. and if he feels “American.”

“Do I feel American?” Harry replied. “Um, no. I don’t know how I feel.”

Reeve then asked, “Would you think about becoming a citizen?”

“Whew! I have considered it, yeah,” Harry responded, noting that it’s “certainly not something that is a high priority for me right now.”
