Prince Harry’s legal battle against Associated Newspapers has reportedly had him on the verge of tears, but sources say something good has already come out of the ongoing trial.
The Duke of Sussex and coplaintiff Elizabeth Hurley — who are part of a larger group of celebrities suing the publishers of the Daily Mail for “brutal invasion of privacy” — became fast friends while in London giving their testimony this January, reveals an insider.
“They really hit it off,” confirms the insider. “Liz and Harry have known each other for years, but this was the first time they ever spent any significant time together and they found a lot of common ground.”
A day after taking the stand himself, the royal spare, 41, returned to High Court to support the Austin Powers actress, 60, as she recounted having her phones tapped and microphones planted around her house.
Now the trauma-bonded duo are laying the groundwork for more lighthearted meetups, says the insider, setting plans in motion for double dates with their respective partners, Meghan Markle and Billy Ray Cyrus.

“In Liz’s mind, Billy Ray could really use the company,” gossips the insider. “He’s not someone who naturally goes out and socializes, and Liz thinks Harry would be a great influence — someone who he can relax around without any pressure.”
While the country singer, 64, may have to be dragged along by his model girlfriend, the As Ever founder, 44, will be an eager participant, according to the insider.

“Liz is so well-loved in the U.K., getting her stamp of approval would be huge,” says the insider. “Liz has built a very solid lifestyle brand, too. Just from a business perspective, Meghan would love to break bread with her and get her take on how to conquer the British market.”
