Sam Smith Oscars Controversy Explodes! Singer Responds After Accusations He's Been Cheating With Tom Daley

After his Best Original Song win for the James Bond theme song, “Writing’s on the Wall,” he gave an emotional speech about paving the way for other gay people in the arts.

“I read an article a few months ago by Sir Ian McKellen, which said that no openly gay man had ever won an Oscar," he told the crowd as he accepted the award with his co-writer, Jimmy Napes.

"If this is the case, even if it isn't the case, I want to dedicate this to the LGBT community all around the world,” he said.

While many found this speech moving, others found it downright offensive — namely, Dustin Lance Black, who won an Academy Award for best original screenplay for Milk in 2009.

But Sam's apparent ignorance of recent Oscar history aside, Dustin had a bigger bone to pick with the recently slimmed down crooner.

Dustin accused Sam of messaging his 21-year-old fiance, diver Tom Daley!

Sam clapped back the morning after with a flurry of tweets of his own. "Second openly gay man to win an oscar or third or fourth or 100th, It wasn't my point," he wrote. "My point was to shine some light on the LGBT community who i love so dearly."

"Apologies for the mix up @DLanceBlack I'll be sure to check out your films now x Belated Congrats on the Oscar," Sam said, completely ignoring the accusations that he had been texting Tom Daley.
