Netflix celebrated the premiere of the 5th season of
Orange Is The New Black with a red carpet party in New York City. The glammed up
cast was practically unrecognizable in full hair and make up and designer dresses and suits instead of the state issued prison uniforms fans are used to seeing them in. New episodes of the
wildly popular series began streaming on Netflix on Friday, June 9.

OITNB is based on the book
Orange Is The New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison by
Piper Kerman. Actress
Taylor Schilling, 32, plays the main character Piper Chapman. They may have changed Piper Kerman’s last name for the show, but her real name is listed in the credits for her work as a consultant.

Laverne Cox plays Sophia Burset, a transgender former firefighter. The actress is transgender, and her real life twin brother, musician M Lamar, plays her character pre-transition in flashback scenes.
Actress Danielle Brooks, 27, who plays Tasha ‘Taystee’ Jefferson on the show, wore a bright pink and purple maxi dress to the premiere party. The wrap style gown showed a whole lot of cleavage and leg. Who knew Taystee was hiding an hourglass figure under that boxy prison uniform?

Lea Delaria, who plays Carrie ‘Big Boo’ Black on OITNB, is a triple threat. She’s not in addition to being SAG Award winning actress, Lea is also an accomplished comedian and jazz musician.
Diane Guerrero and
Jackie Cruz portray Maritza Ramos and Marisol ‘Flaca’ Gonzales. They look a lot better working the orange carpet than they do working in the kitchen at Litchfield.
Actress
Natasha Lyonne, 37, now plays the part of drug addict Nicky Nichols on OITNB but got her start as a child actress on
Pee Wee’s Playhouse.

Actress
Uzo Aduba, 36, is virtually unrecognizable at the premiere party. She’s won two Emmy Awards, one Critics’ Choice Award, and three SAG Awards for her portrayal of Suzanne ‘Crazy Eyes’ Warren.

Laura Prepon, 37, who plays OITNB’s sarcastic Alex Vause, had the best glow of everybody on the orange carpet at the premiere party. That’s because the former That 70’s Show star is expecting her first baby with fiancé actor Ben Foster.
