Country singer Jason Aldean was performing on stage last October 1, headlining the Route 91 Harvest Festival, when a gunman opened fire. It became the deadliest mass shooting in United States history. In a new interview with Sunday Today, he opens up to Willie Geist about the tragic event and how he’s tried to move past it. 58 concertgoers were killed and nearly 500 others injured in the tragic shooting. Jason’s wife Brittany Aldean was also in attendance. The couple ran for cover in an attempt to escape the gunfire together. “It was definitely scary,” Jason said.

"On one hand I hate that she was there to have to experience it. On the other hand, I know if she was at home and saw it on the news she would have freaked out," he explained. "I don’t know what would have been worse." Brittany was pregnant at the time, and gave birth to son Memphis two months later.

But Jason’s trying not to dwell on the event. "That’s not something I want on my resume for the rest of my life," he said in the interview, which will air this Sunday, August 26.

it’ll be a little girl!
