No Scripts, No Games — Just Love! Meryl Streep & Martin Short’s Late-Life Romance Heats Up

Love conquers all! Meryl Streep has been enjoying a big-screen hiatus as her romance with her Only Murders in the Building costar Martin Short continues to blossom. “Martin comes first in her life,” says a source of the multiple Oscar winner, who’s cut down on her professional commitments and paused her habit of jumping from one high-profile film to the next.

“they’re spending all their free time going to shows and events and dining out — she hasn’t had this much fun in years.”

Marin, 75, revealed that before OMITB‘s third season started filming in 2023, Meryl, also 75, called him to request a role and was swiftly cast as his love interest. Life imitated art for the duo, who were both single — Martin’s wife, Nancy Dolman, passed away in 2010, and Meryl separated from longtime spouse Don Gummer in 2018.

After months of quiet dates and public hand-holding, they seemed cozy as ever on March 8, when they hit the town for a Broadway show and a live taping of Saturday Night Live. “They want to spend as much time together as they can,” says the source. “There aren’t the unrealistic expectations that can happen when you’re younger. There’s no game-playing.”

The source adds that Meryl and Martin’s seen grown kids “are thrilled for them. They have their own lives, so it’s comforting to know their parents have each other.”
