Nicole Kidman Honors Her Mom

Nicole Kidman plays a businesswoman exploring her sexual kinks in the new movie Babygirl. And in a recent interview, the 57-year-old revealed she was inspired to take the risky role by a surprising person — her mom! The Oscar winner told The New York Times that long conversations with her mother, Janelle, before her death in September gave her an appreciation of how much women of her mom’s generation had missed out on. “Part of her last 10 years was regret — she didn’t have the career she wanted, she didn’t have the journey in terms of her intellect that she could have had,” said Nicole, adding, “I didn’t like seeing that.”

Now a mom of two daughters with husband Keith Urban, she’s vowed to help lift women up by working with female directors and using her power to insist on hiring more women on TV and movie crews. “How do you change it?” she said of generations of inequality. “By not letting it happen again.”
