Morgan Wallen has addressed the reason behind his abrupt Saturday Night Live exit almost two months after the widely critiqued moment.

The 31-year-old country star was a guest on the Sunday, May 11, episode of the YouTube series Sundae Conversation With Caleb Pressley, where he explained he rushed offstage at the end of the episode simply because he was eager to get back to Nashville.

“Could you fix a TV if it was on ‘SNL?'” host Caleb Pressley jokingly asked.

“I could change it for sure,” Morgan laughed.

“Seriously, ‘SNL,’ did they make you mad?” the 32-year-old interviewer questioned.

“No, I was ready to go home. I’d been there all week,” the Grammy-nominated artist responded.

In March, the “Whiskey Glasses” singer served as a musical guest for the long-running sketchy comedy show. He joined the cast onstage at the end of the episode but swiftly left before the credits finished rolling. Shortly after, Morgan posted a photo on his Instagram Story of his private plane, captioning it, “Get me to God’s country,” leaving fans to speculate he was angry with the late-night show.

SNL cast member Kenan Thompson spoke out about the situation later that month, telling Entertainment Weekly, “I don’t know what goes through people’s minds when they decide to do stuff like that. I don’t know if he understood the assignment or not, or if he was really feeling a certain kind of way.”

The 47-year-old comedian continued, “It’s definitely a spike in the norm. We’re so used to everybody just turning around and high-fiving us, everybody’s saying, ‘Good job, good job, good job.’ So when there’s a departure from that, it’s like, hmm, I wonder what that’s about?”

Afterward, SNL poked fun at the musician twice in an April episode. First, James Austin Johnson, who portrays President Donald Trump, referenced the viral moment in the cold open.

Johnson, as Trump, bragged about implementing tariffs everywhere, including Heard Island and McDonald Islands — an Australian territory where no humans reside permanently.

“I had to mock up some artwork of McDonald Island. I want to go to there, Tina,” Johnson said, holding up an image of a hamburger in a hula skirt. “Get me to God’s country, right?”

Later, during the Weekend Update segment, co-anchor Colin Jost took a jab at Morgan.

“Just in the past two days, investors have lost over $6 trillion. Money is leaving the stock market faster than Morgan Wallen at good night,” Jost, 42, remarked.

The “Cowgirls” singer also seemed to approach the situation with a sense of humor as he started selling merchandise that read “Get Me to God’s Country” on his website.
