Miley Cyrus Declares New Song ‘Secrets’ is a ‘Peace Offering’ to Dad Billy Ray After Family Feud

Miley Cyrus is addressing her complicated relationship with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, in a new song.

On Thursday, September 18, the pop star, 32, released “Secrets” and an accompanying music video featuring Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood.

The Grammy Award winner shared a snippet from the music video on Instagram and noted in her caption that the track was for the 64-year-old “Achy Breaky Heart” hitmaker.

“This song was written as a peace offering for someone I had lost for a time but always loved,” Cyrus explained in her caption. “In my experience, forgiveness and freedom are one and the same.”

“This song is for my dad,” she added.

In the song, Miley sings, “Can I be your hero? / Call off all your forces / A white flag in the war.”

“Love is not a prison / I’m not a guard, no / So even when I’m holding you / I won’t lock you up,” she further sang.

As Star previously reported, the former Disney actress and the country singer’s relationship reportedly became strained after he divorced his wife, Tish Cyrus, in 2022 and got engaged to singer Firerose only four months later.

“Miley had a huge problem with the way Billy Ray treated Tish. He’d been a real jerk to her mom for a long time even before the divorce,” a source told Star in May. “It hurt to see what her mom put up with.”

Billy Ray and Firerose eventually divorced in 2024, and he began dating Elizabeth Hurley this year.

In May, Billy Ray shared a statement on Instagram about the status of his family dynamics.

“I too rarely comment on rumors… but on this given day… I give you my truth,” he wrote. “I’m so proud of Miley and her guts and her courage… her wisdom and strength to bring it when our family needed it most. We are so close to a full healing.”
