Meghan McCain Says She Has ‘No Desire’ to Return for The View’s 30th Anniversary: ‘Very Painful Time’

Meghan McCain is speaking out amid a report that The View doesn’t want her on hand for its 30th anniversary special next year.

According to Page Six, the long-running ABC daytime talk show is doing what it can to keep 41-year-old McCain from coming. Sources close to the outlet say they’d “be shocked” if she even gets an invite “given the way she treated people.”

“She’s the most horrible, biggest pain in the [expletive],” sources told Page Six, referring to her behavior both on camera and behind the scenes. One source claimed she once hurled an F bomb at the executive producer in front of the studio audience.

“She’s a nut bag!” they added.

McCain took to X amid Page Six‘s report to slam the publication as well as The View, writing: “I am in the middle of trying to pack my 6th month old baby for a family trip and a page six reporter who has constantly harassed me personally for years is apparently attempting to write an article about my time at the view – which is now FIVE years ago in the past.”

Calling her time on the show “painful” both “personally and professionally,” McCain asked that the harassment of ex-hosts stop.

“As I have expressed explicitly, that was a very painful time in my life both personally and professionally. This addiction that both the show and gossip reporters have with harassing current and ex-hosts continues to be insane. I truly wish that culture would change,” she continued. “I ask only to be left alone and have no desire or plans to ever return to the show.”

McCain spent four years on the show, joining the cast in 2017 as the table’s “conservative” voice. McCain’s ups and downs with her fellow cohosts were documented on the show, including a spat with moderator Whoopi Goldberg, who once even told McCain to “stop talking.”

Joy Behar, meanwhile, didn’t hide her disdain for McCain either. When McCain joked about missing her when she returned from maternity leave after being away for three months, Behar quipped, “I did not miss you. Zero!”

It appears that sentiment was shared among staffers after her exit in 2021, with another source telling Page Six, “Forget about how she treated her cohosts. It’s less about that and more about how she treated the staff.”

“She would even scream across the stage, ‘Do you know who I am?” the source added, claiming that the late Sen. John McCain‘s daughter would often remind people “who my father is.”

McCain, meanwhile, has also blasted the show over the years, calling the work environment on The View “toxic” in her audio memoir, Bad Republican.

While she once praised her cohosts for being the “most talented women on all of television,” McCain said she felt mistreated by the panel during her time on the show for her conservative standpoint. She also said that postpartum anxiety played a part in her exit, with McCain — who shares daughters Liberty, 5, Clover, 2, and son Ransom, 6 months, with husband Ben Domenech — welcoming her first child during her time on the show.

Amid the chatter surrounding the show’s 30th anniversary, The View‘s executive producer, Brian Teta, also weighed in, taking to X Tuesday, August 4. While he stayed mum on the guest list, Teta said “lots of plans are in the works” for the special, “but no invites have gone out.”
