Martha Stewart on Thursday revealed her French bulldog Creme Brûlée had to have her eye removed after developing an infection.
“Two weeks ago, my darling Frenchie Creme Brûlée developed a problem — her left eye became cloudy and then very discolored and then actually very bloody we rushed her to our vet, Dr. Jean Quaintance, who immediately suggested we visit the Animal Eye Clinic in Wilton, Conn.,” Stewart, 83, wrote on Instagram alongside photos, including one of Creme Brûlée with stitches where her eye once was.
“Creme had a deep ulcerated eye infection, no tumor, and the doctor advised removing the entire eye. He was able to insert an artificial eyeball and stitched up the eye socket Creme was released the same day and has recovered beautifully,” she wrote.
“Yesterday the stitches were removed and the operation declared a success ! Many thanks to Dr Jean and to Dr Stuhr and his staff at @animaleyeclinicwilton for doing such a great job with Creme,” she wrote.
The lifestyle guru also invited “pet owners and lovers” to follow the @raisingtheperfectpet Instagram account, which she is developing as a “blog” with Ari Katz.
“It will be filled with really sound, good practical advice that every pet owner needs to co-exist in the best possible way with live animal pets in one’s personal environment,” she wrote. “We hope you will learn a lot and be inspired!”
