National Margarita Day is coming up on Saturday, Feb. 22, and the new tattoo-inspired tequila brand co-founded by Food Network star, “Top Chef” winner and Michelin Star recipient Michael Voltaggio is offering discounts and a unique margarita recipe to try.
Marcado 28 launched late last year with Blanco and Reposado expressions, featuring original label art by tattoo artists El Sando and Billy Baca — a nod to Voltaggio’s status as a “tattoo rockstar” who has covered Ink Magazine.
Voltaggio partnered with co-founder Ron Roy and master tequilero Bruno Barba, who works as the tenth generation of his family’s agave cultivation and distilling business in the heart of Jalisco, Mexico.
Marcado 28 is crafted with 100% blue agave using time-honored techniques for a bold yet smooth sipping experience.
The Marcado 28 Blanco, which retails for $50, is crafted with 100% blue Weber agave, and is the purest expression of tequila. The Blanco has a clear, bright appearance and crisp and refreshing flavors.
The Marcardo 28 Reposado, which retails for $60, is aged for eight months in American oak barrels, giving it a rich golden hue. This Reposado offers a deeper, more complex profile, with the smoothness of Blanco and the rich warmth of oak aging.
Voltaggio, who won season 6 of “Top Chef” and has since made his mark on Bobby Flays “Bobbys Triple Threat” and other popular shows, is also sharing his own exclusive recipe for a Bleeding Heart Margarita.
The custom drink includes 2 ounces Marcado 28 Blanco Tequila, 2 ounces fresh blood orange juice or blood orange purée, 1 ounce fresh lime juice, 3/4 ounce light agave nectar, 10 cilantro leaves, and 1 slice Fresno chili plus 1 slice for garnish. After muddling one chili with the cilantro in a mixing glass, add the remaining ingredients and shake vigorously over ice. After strining into a cocktail glass filled with ice, garnish with the remaining chili.
In celebration of National Margarita Day, Marcado 28 is offering 10% off sitewide with code MargaritaDay.
