Lifetime has given the green light to “A Sorority Moms Guide to Rush” (working title), a new unscripted series that delves into the high-stakes world of sorority recruitment.

Produced by VICE Studios in association with GroupM Motion Entertainment, the series follows college-bound women — and the mothers behind them — as they navigate the competitive and often intense process of joining a sorority.

The show comes amid growing interest in sorority rush culture, fueled by the viral #BamaRush phenomenon, which had amassed 2.6 billion views on TikTok by May 2023.

The series will document the preparation leading up to Bid Day, highlighting the lengths some families go to secure a coveted sorority spot. From hiring consultants to curating wardrobes that fit sorority style expectations, the show raises questions about whether the process is truly for the daughters — or for their mothers.

“I remember what it was like when I rushed in college. Now, as my own daughter is about to embark on her freshman year and rush herself, I know how deeply important this rite of passage is for many young women,” Elaine Frontain Bryant, EVP and Head of Programming for A&E, Lifetime, and LMN, said in a statement. “This show is a peek into the fascinating rush process and will engage those who are going after Greek life or not.”

“The sensational success of our documentary feature Bama Rush raised massive global interest across TikTok and multiple social media outlets,” said Danny Gabai, Co-President of VICE Studios. “Our new reality series delves even deeper into the incredible value that the sorority legacy holds in the lives of many young women and their families, particularly when viewed through the unique mom and daughter lens.”

“A Sorority Moms Guide to Rush” is set to debut later this year on Lifetime.
