‘Running Point’ premiered Feb. 27, on Netflix.

Hudson stars as Isla Gordon, who’s tapped to run her family’s business after her older brother (MacArthur) crashes and burns and is forced to hand control over to her. But the Gordons’ company is almost as un-female-friendly as the Mob – they own the Los Angeles Waves, a major pro basketball franchise.

Isla must overcome the skepticism of her doofus brothers – who tell her she’s a nepo “crone” because she’s “old” – as well as internet naysayers, the team’s coach and the players to prove a girlboss can handle running a giant enterprise in the male-dominated world of pro sports. The only people on her side are her wiseass chief of staff and former college roommate (Brenda Song) and her pediatrician fiancé (Max Greenfield).

The 10-part series, cowritten by Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen, combines The Mindy Project’s themes of female empowerment with a lot of hilarious zingers and slapstick bits – and Hudson is at her charismatic, comedic best in this fun, fast-paced show.
