Whoopi Goldberg announced at the start of the show’s Tuesday, October 6, episode that Behar, 83, would be out once again.
“Joy is still out, and Ana [Navarro] is in with us today,” Goldberg, 70, revealed.
The announcement follows the news that Behar dislocated her shoulder, with cohost Sunny Hostin telling viewers on Thursday, October 1, that the longtime TV personality is “recovering and will be back soon.”
Behar has missed five episodes of the talk show amid her recovery, and it is unclear when she will return. Her last appearance on the show was on September 30. The news also comes as Behar’s 84th birthday nears.
Last year, the panel celebrated Behar with a special episode, a cake and flowers.
Behar is the only original member of The View still on the panel, with the comedian having been part of the original cast headed by Barbara Walters in 1997. She’s also made history in her time on The View, which is celebrating its 30th year, hosting more seasons of a talk show than any other woman.

This is the longest Behar has been absent from the panel since June, when she took an extended hiatus to present her stage play, My First Ex-Husband, to London’s West End after its New York City run.
And in late January, per People, she missed six episodes in a row due to an undisclosed illness. Two of those episodes, however, were pre-scheduled absences, as she and Goldberg typically trade off days between the two, with Behar typically taking Mondays off, while Goldberg sits out on Fridays.
Prior to her 2026 absences from the show, Behar was forced to miss a string of episodes after breaking her toe in November 2025.

“Now, I’ve been off for a few days as you might have noticed,” Behar said on the show when she returned. “Here’s what happened: I dropped my iPad on my foot and I broke my toe.”
She then propped her foot on the desk so the cameras could get a close look at her “buddy-taped” toes, meaning the broken toe was taped to its neighbor for support. “And it’s very, very, very painful,” she added. “I do not recommend you dropping anything on your toes.”
