Hailey & Justin Bieber Face Challenges — but Hope Remains for Healing and Growth

On March 29, Justin Bieber recorded an alarming Instagram Live video in which the shirtless star appeared droopy-eyed and out of it as he nodded his head along to music. Fans immediately expressed concern for his well-being, commenting that the 31-year-old seemed “high as a kite” and calling the clip “concerning.”

The “Ghost” singer has been displaying questionable behavior for weeks. He made a bizarre appearance at a Rhode Beauty event for wife Hailey, 28, Feb. 20 and has been posting cryptic messages, including a March 22 one about “anger issues,” in which he said, “I hate myself sometimes when I feel myself start to become inauthentic.”

A source says he’s acting out amid trouble in his five-year marriage. While it’s supposed to be a magical time for the pair as they settle into their new life with their 8-month-old son, Jack, it’s been anything but. “They’re in a bad place,” says the source, noting that first-time parenthood has been challenging, especially for Justin, who’s been escaping to his studio. “Becoming parents has been stressful for both of them — but while Hailey’s been balancing her career and taking care of Jack, Justin appears to be going off the rails,” says the source, adding, “Hailey’s tired of it. She doesn’t like who Justin’s hanging out with in the studio. They seem like a bunch of enablers, and she feels he’d be better off at home.”

The stress is triggering for Justin, who’s been open about his mental health struggles and admitted to abusing Xanax in a 2019 Vogue interview. “It got pretty dark,” he told the mag. “There were times when my security was coming in late at night to check my pulse and see if I was still breathing.” The couple has gotten through bad times before, including coinciding health crises. (In 2022, she suffered a mini stroke three months before Justin was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which causes facial paralysis.)

But Hailey — who blamed a technical “glitch” for briefly unfollowing her husband after his March 28 IG Live — is reaching her limit, says the source. “Jus- tin’s been fragile, and this just proves he’s as confused as ever. They’re not throwing in the towel yet, but they sure seem to be dancing around the idea.”
