Gwyneth Paltrow says she’s “sick” of her “strict” paleo diet and has gone back to eating bread, cheese, and even “a little pasta.”

The actress and lifestyle guru, 52, made the admission during this week’s episode of “The goop Podcast,” saying she may have taken her commitment to healthy eating a little too far.

“Brad [Falchuk] and I became paleo a few years ago now, although I’m a little sick of it if I’m honest, and getting back into eating some sourdough bread and some cheese,” she said. “There, I said it, a little pasta. After being strict with it for so long.”

The paleo diet purports to resemble how prehistoric people may have eaten, prioritizing lean meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds, and excluding dairy, grains and other processed foods.

The Oscar winner said she still focuses on eating foods that are “as whole and fresh as possible,” however, in order to manage “longer term inflammation” and “health” issues.

“I went into hardcore macrobiotics for a certain time. That was an interesting chapter where I got kind of obsessed with eating very, very healthily. I think that was, I was really trying to heal my dad by proxy and he just didn’t really want anything to do with it,” she said, referring to Bruce Paltrow, who died of throat cancer in 2002.

“I think I was just so amazed that, you know, we had this power in our hands, you know, that if we treated ourselves well and hydrated and ate whole foods that we could just feel so much better. I was sort of intoxicated by that idea, and I still feel that way to this day,” she said.

Now, Paltrow says she’s more focused on balance, using a looser “sort of template” for healthy eating.
