Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week will take place from Monday, May 5, to Sunday, May 11, 2025, with World Maternal Mental Health Day on Wednesday, May 7—a time dedicated to raising awareness about the mental health challenges mothers face before, during, and after pregnancy.

One of the leading voices in this space is Dr. Sarah Oreck, MD, MS, a Columbia University-trained reproductive psychiatrist specializing in women’s mental wellness. As one of the few physicians with advanced training in reproductive psychiatry, she focuses on the unique mental health needs of women throughout the reproductive life cycle.

Dr. Oreck is the co-founder of Mavida Health, a digital mental health platform offering specialized online therapy for women, supportive communities, medication management, and resources for mothers. Her personal experiences with postpartum anxiety and pregnancy loss inspired her to launch Mavida Health in April 2023, aiming to create accessible, expert-backed mental health care for mothers.

In addition to leading Mavida Health, Dr. Oreck runs a private practice in Los Angeles, where she combines medical treatments with talk therapy, meditation, and a holistic approach — in Spanish and English. She also serves on the board of Maternal Mental Health Now, is a medical board member at August, a company reimagining period care, and advises Perelel Health, which offers research-backed vitamins for every stage of motherhood.

As Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week approaches, experts like Dr. Oreck are emphasizing the importance of destigmatizing maternal mental health issues and expanding access to care. Through advocacy, clinical work, and digital health innovation, she continues to push for better support systems for mothers at every stage of their journey.
